Background

The Global Alliance to End AIDS in Children was launched in 2022 as a Strategic Global Initiative of UNAIDS, UNICEF, WHO, the Global Fund and PEPFAR and Networks of People Living with HIV that brought together a diverse spectrum of stakeholders at the national, regional, and global levels. With the overarching goal of ending AIDS in children by 2030, the Global Alliance is committed to action across four key pillars that encompass HIV prevention, testing and treatment services for children and women, while addressing structural and social barriers to access.

Since its inception, the Global Alliance has seen significant momentum, with Ministers of Health from the 12 Alliance countries formally endorsing the Dar es Salaam Declaration for Action to End AIDS in Children by 2030. Following this, country-specific action plans and working groups have been established with the objective of prioritized and rapid implementation of the country action plans.

The AIDS 2024 conference presents a pivotal moment for the Global Alliance to review its 2-year journey, assess its progress, and leverage future actions and opportunities.

Session objectives

The aim of this satellite session is to appraise the trajectory of the global alliance, explore challenges, achievements and best practices from the implementation of Alliance action plans with a view to offering fresh insights into how we can address the prevention and treatment gaps for children. The session will offer an in-depth examination of the current status and results of implementing the country action plans. Additionally, it will explore avenues to strengthen the implementation of these plans, fostering collaboration and innovation at both the global, regional and country levels.
