Troubling trends in anti-abortion, anti-gender and anti-trans policy in the United States are having global implications for HIV, gender and human rights. Full PEPFAR reauthorization is being held up by a section of policymakers using anti-abortion misinformation to threaten the historically bipartisan programme. The risk of a reinstated and expanded Global Gag Rule remains present in 2024 and could severely impact global HIV programming. There is a need to organize community, researchers and funders to share data, insights and strategies to promote sound policy for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). This satellite will bring together these stakeholders for a series of presentations and a panel. Presenters will share what is known about U.S. SRHR policies and their impacts on HIV. The panel will focus on harm mitigation strategies to protect human rights and HIV programmes globally. Through this convening we aim to create a space for ongoing stakeholder collaborations.
