This oral abstract session highlighted new strategies to optimize person-centred care. It explored how different strategies could provide a more efficient delivery of HIV prevention and care services.

This session, moderated by Anna Grimsrud from IAS in Switzerland, highlighted various strategies to optimize person-centred care. Marijie Bruinderink from Public Health Service in Amsterdam presented data showing that implementing 6-monthly PrEP monitoring as standard-of-care could reduce the total number of visits for STI testing without resulting in increased STI positivity. Jabulani Chacha from ECHO project in Mozambique presented data from quantitative cross-sectional survey showing that people living with HIV who are enrolled in 6 multimonth dispensing of ART achieve high rates of viral suppression and retention in care. Kimberly Green from PATH in Switzerland reported misalignment between key population service preferences, access to prevention services and willingness to pay for preferred services. Partial subsidy models for PEP pricing may be required. Nyasha Mutanda from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa presented results of a survey showing that a substantial proportion of clients in early ART treatment (<6months) would prefer less frequent clinic visits, longer dispensing period intervals, and quality counselling. Lackeby Kawanga from JSI DISCOVER-Health in Zambia concluded that early implementation of CAB-LA demonstrates minimal difference in continuation between oral PrEP and CAB-LA at 1-month follow-up, although 6-month follow-up shows better retention rate for client on CAB-LA.

This session highlighted different strategies of providing HIV prevention and care to optimize patient-centred care principles. Key strategies highlighted include – considerations for client preferences, reducing frequency of visit without compromising quality of care, supporting affordability and implementing long-acting PrEP.
